Ein Geniestreich: "Don Pasquale" in der Kammeroper, von Marcos Darbyshire inszeniert, von Tscho Theissing musikalisch neu eingekleidet. Dass die bildschöne Norina und der sensible Ernesto vom Librettisten Giovanni Ruffini füreinander geschaffen wurden, ist seit 1843 hinlänglich bekannt. Aber hoppla: Norina findet auch Ernestos Freund Malatesta attraktiv; der Arzt wiederum empfindet für Ernesto mehr als freundschaftliche Gefühle. Nur der alte Zausel Don Pasquale steht der heiteren Ménage-à-trois im Weg. Noch… (…) Heilige Cäcilia, was ist der Wiener Kammeroper da wieder für eine zauberleichte, erfrischende Produktion geglückt! Regisseur Marcos Darbyshire setzt seine frühlingsfreche Deutung mit Witz und Esprit um – und dank glänzender komödiantischer Leistungen der Protagonisten.

…here the argentine director Marcos Darbyshire hints at the possibility of a love triangle between the protagonists, the only moment he goes “beyond" the libretto. The director showed a great sense of comedic timing, servicing storyline and music, allowing the characters to shine in the right moments (…) All four soloists shine, specially in the ensembles (indeed, Donizetti's best written music), and thanks to the eight musicians in the orchestra pit, including the conductor, the performance becomes an evening full of esprit. The performers were rewarded by the audience with laughter and applause. (…) a good piece, good performers, good musicians, and a director with musical sensibility.
